How We Spent Two Days in Mumbai

Going to have to go through the archives for this one. That’s just what happens when you don’t blog for a while, oops. But this time, the website is live and we are back baby!

Last year (2023), Mum and I were on our way back from Italy and thought of the brilliant idea to pit-stop through India, a place that has been on our list for a while.

Initially, we were going to New Delhi, but due to the G20 Summit being held there it was going to be hectic with road closures and once out Taj Mahal tour was canceled we knew we had to change locations.

So we decided to go to Mumbai, and it was a full-on experience - which we LOVED.

Here’s how we spent 2 Days in Mumbai:

Day 1: Arrived to Mumbai

When we landed in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport it was 4:15 am and we were confused straight away - even though it was early hours of the morning, Mumbai was already chaotic. How were we going to kill 7 hours before checking into our hotel at 11am?

We got a bit confused when exiting the airport because you can usually exit and then walk straight back in if you needed the toilet or something, but nope, not in Mumbai - the guards were up at the door telling us that was it, we couldn’t go back in. There was no turning back now, we had to brace the chaos and go.

We made our way to the taxi stand and the taxi man that we were assigned to had to be woken by his colleagues to get his ass up as he had customers. I thought this was hilarious, I’m not sure how mum felt… I swear his eyes were still shut as we drove out of the arrivals and onto the highway.

Where to stay? Hotel Harbour View, Colaba

Day 2: Explore Mumbai

Staying in Colaba meant that we were super close to The Gateway of India, Colaba Markets and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel. Day two consisted of on-foot exploration to all of the above and picking up some market goods to take home.

Where to go?

  • The Gateway of India (prepare for lots of locals to take pics of you)

  • Colaba Markets

  • Taj Mahal Palace Hotel

  • Reality Tours and Travel Tour (food pictured below)

Mum and I with our tour guides from Reality Tours and Travel India

We are sweating from eating the most food we possibly could in 3.5 hours.

Foods to try: there’s a lot of amazing food in Mumbai (and in India in general) so if you are heading there I would recommend you try the following:

  • Biriyani

  • Garlic Naan

  • Dosa with Sambar

  • Bread Pakora

  • Kachori

  • Masala Dosa

  • Pav Bhaji (my favourite!!!)

  • Dahi Puri

  • Bheli Puri

  • Pani Puri

  • Tandoori Chicken

  • Kulfi (sweet)

I hope you have the most amazing time in Mumbai, make sure to let me know if you are heading there so I can send some more tips through.

As always, have fun!
