Best Photo Spots in Berat, Albania
It was a no brainer to add Berat onto my Albania itinerary this October. After some research, I quickly figured out that my camera would get a workout while in Berat. Known as “the city of a thousand windows” Berat is picture paradise with a breathtaking background of white Ottoman houses and mountains.
Please enjoy this blogpost of the Best Photo Spots in Berat, Albania.
1. Berat Castle
Starting off strong, we head up to the castle to get some beautiful afternoon shots of the 13th century fortressed that once housed 20 churches and mosques. You can choose to walk up to the castle from the southern side (takes about 40 minutes uphill) or take a car up the northern side. I won’t lie, it wasn’t an easy walk, but definitely worth it for the sunset.
2. Gorica Bridge
Gorica Bridge was right outside of our accomodation so I got plenty of pics of it in different settings. It is one of the oldest and most popular Ottoman bridges in Albania. Originally built by wood in 1780 and then rebuilt with stone in the 1920s. The bridge itself is so beautiful, however when you turn to look towards the city you are presented with a stunning mountain view too.
3. Berat Backpackers
Another excellent photo spot is the terrace room at Berat Backpackers. This room cost $84 for two nights and we had a private balcony which was perfect for photos and for relaxing. The hostel also organises a brilliant winery tour (more info on this later) and overall we enjoyed our stay at Berat Backpackers.
4. Exploring Gorica Area
This area is where lots of the hostels are located and is full of small pathways that lead to both bridges going into the main part of Berat. We loved exploring Gorica on our walks, a unique picture around every corner. There’s traditional restaurants and bars scattered throughout as well. We were only in Berat for two days but we would definitely stay in this area again.
5. Ura e Varur Bridge
The Ura e Varur Bridge has one of the best views of Berat, it was closed for one of the nights we were there as they were hosting Miss Globe Pageant Show which was super random but fun to watch at night from the other side of the bridge. Berat is known as the city of a thousand windows and you can truly capture this in images taken from this bridge. If you want to get the exact photo I did, then head as close as you can to the waterfront.
