Where to Eat Peking Duck in Beijing
Everyone usually travels to Beijing to visit The Great Wall of China, and granted - so did we. However, there is more to Beijing then just the adventure out to The Great Wall. There’s a specific dish that is very important to try. We arrived in Beijing China and after checking into our accommodation our stomachs were growling…. for Peking Duck.
We met up with my friend Thanos who was devastated because he couldn’t find any lantern festivities. I told him to ditch that idea because we were on the hunt for food. I’ve had Peking Duck before in Hong Kong but I was certain that Beijing was going to live up to its name. If you didn’t know this, Peking duck was named after the capital city Beijing during the rise of the Ming Dynasty. Which now makes so much sense to me because when we left from South Korea to China at the airport they said, “you’re going to Pek-ing?” And I was like “no, I’m going to Beijing?” But now I know what they meant.
We went to Peking Chamber (Siji Mingfu Roasted Duck Restaurant) because it was a chain restaurant which seemed reliable, the reviews looked decent, but most of all we just didn’t know where else to go and we were STARVING. They sat us in a private room with a massive table, as though we were VIP foreigners. It was so funny because they even shut the door on us to make it appear even more private and we understood nothing. I questioned whether this room was free and they said it was. Through Google translate we finally ordered, it probably took about 30 minutes for us to order 1 duck (around 200rmb which is $44aud) a bowl of rice, 3 beers and some wraps to make a duck pancake. The duck came out and it was so crispy and truly melted in your mouth, especially when paired with the sauces - which were all a mystery to us but tasted good nonetheless. Oh, and there was no wait time downstairs and also the duck pretty much came flying over to our table.
Our ONLY regret of the night is that we wish we had ordered two.
Here are some other places for an amazing Peking Duck experience:
Quanjude - Established in 1864 it’s easy to label this restaurant as iconic. Quanjude means perfection.
Da dong restaurant - There are two branches in Beijing and if you are going alone then don’t worry because you can choose the smaller duck so you’re not forcing yourself to eat more. Unless that’s what you wanna do.
Bian Yi Fang Roast Duck - claiming to be the birth place of Peking Duck, and the brand is over 600 years old so it checks out.

Here are some of the locations of the restaurants mentioned above. It’s best that you use Apple Maps or Dian Ping App to locate them. Good luck!
